EDWARDSBURG - Bernadine Mantei of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed to her eternal resting place on October 27th at her daughter's home, Mary Corl, surrounded by her family. She was born July 2, 1931, in Elkhart, Indiana, the daughter of Vincent and Hattie (Popiolek) Jarvis, and had lived in the Michiana area most of her life. Bernadine worked for General Telephone Company and retired from NIBCO of Elkhart. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church and was an avid volunteer for the Church Ministries, and the Edwardsburg Food Pantry. She was a member of the ‘Red Hat Society' and liked to knit and sew. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with her family. Bernadine was married October 15, 1977, in South Bend, to Richard Mantei and he passed January 22, 2007. Surviving are four daughters, Karen (Don) Rush of Indianapolis, Angie (Albert) Simeri, Susan (Michael) Freshour and Mary Corl, all from Elkhart; and three stepsons, Michael Mantei and Randy Mantei, both of South Bend, and Kevin (Darlene) Mantei of Sanger, Texas, There are ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also her twin sister, Bernadette (Joel) Alwine of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard, a sister, Alice Burke, and her brothers, Ray and Al Jarvis. Family and friends will gather on Sunday, October 30, 2016, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-Highway 12, Edwardsburg, Michigan. At 7:00 pm a Rosary will be led by Father Joe McCormick, pastor of the church. The Mass of Resurrection will be Monday, October 31, 2016, at 11:00 am at the church, where all may gather for one hour before the Mass. The Mass will be led by Father Joe McCormick. Interment will follow at Adamsville Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to The Edwardsburg Food Pantry, 24832 US-Highway 12, Edwardsburg, Michigan 49112; or to the Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M-62 North, Cassopolis, Michigan 49031.
