LAPORTE - Mr. Daniel James Malec, 59, of LaPorte, died at 9:19 PM on Oct. 16, 2008, in South Bend Memorial Hospital. Mr. Malec was born June 12, 1949, in South Bend, IN, to Walter and Emily (Schroff) Malec. On May 31, 1975, in LaPorte, he married Catherine Krochta, who survives. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of LaPorte. He was an overhead crane operator for Mittal Steel for 38 years. He was a member of Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the LaPorte Moose Lodge. He leaves behind his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Natalie Malec of Chicago, IL ; his father, Walter Malec of LaPorte; a brother, Steve (Pam) Malec of South Bend; and a sister, Annette Gilbert of Denver, Colorado; a niece, Kelley Malec, and two nephews, Andrew and Anthony Malec. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emily Malec, and his grandparents. A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Oct. 20th, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Rev. Ted Nordquist officiating. A wake service will be held in the Essling Funeral Home at 5:00 P.M. today, Oct. 19th. A memorial service by the Kingsbury Volunteer Fire Department will be today, Oct. 19th, at 7:00 P.M., Visitation will be held today, Oct. 19th, from 2 to 7:00 P.M., continuing on Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. in the Essling Funeral Home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery on Monday following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to I.O.P.O. Indiana Organ Procurement Org., 429 N. Pennsylvania St., Suite 201, Indianapolis, IN 46204; to the Kingsbury Volunteer Firefighters, PO Box 15, Kingsbury, IN 46345; to
