On Monday, October 26, 2026, the South Bend Area Genealogical Society hosts its annual dinner and will feature a presentation by Aaron Helman. Aaron is a Midwestern historian, storyteller, and the author of several acclaimed regional books, including The Turtle, The Mitten, and An Epic History of Michigan, Ride the Jack Rabbit, and An Incomplete History of St. Joseph County, Indiana. His work explores the surprising, forgotten, and fascinating corners of American history — often with a focus on the Great Lakes and the communities that grew around them.
In late 2024, Aaron resurrected the South Bend News-Times, formerly the city’s other newspaper, as a free monthly digital newsmagazine that showcases the richness of life in and around South Bend.
We’ll be enjoying a delicious Polish dinner catered by Allie’s Cafe & Catering.
